Rippin' Rays Long Drive Tips!

The Body Twist

This exercise is called the Body Twist. I chose this exercise because shoulder flexibility is very important in hitting the golf ball a long way. Rotate your body both ways when doing this exercise. Be sure to concentrate on turning the right shoulder as far as possible without hurting yourself.(right handed golfer). Do three sets of ten daily concentrating on getting the right shoulder back as far as possible.

This exercise is used to increase the arc of your golf swing. It will increase the flexibility of your back, hip and shoulders and also increase the strength of those muscles.

Within a short period of time you will be increasing your swing arc without having to make a huge effort to do so. It will just be natural. You may use small weights as in the diagram, or without weights will also work. I use weights when I do the body twist (5 to 20 lbs max) but it's not necessary.

I also suggest you swing your driver every other day before and after these simple exercises. Swing the driver as hard as you can and still maintain balance. Do three sets of ten. Visualize in your mind increasing your club head speed. Do one set of 10 with your eyes closed. You are conditioning your body and mind to increase the club head speed of your driver.

I believe this exercise and push ups are the only exercises you really need to do daily to begin hitting the ball longer. These exercise can be done in minutes a day. you may even want to try doing them 2 or 3 times a day to accelerate building your strength and flexibility. Like everything else, the more you put into the exercises the more you will get out of them.

My next article will be about a few isometrics you can add to your long drive exercise routine. They are easy to do but dynamite to adding distance!
